Two 'imari' porcelain chargers

Japan, Arita, 18th cent.
D. 53,2-53,4 cm
Low wall with rather steep rim, in two-coloured underglaze blue, two-coloured iron red, gold, green and black. The centre decorated with a vase of penies and cherry blossom branches, the inner wall with lively decoration of leaping hares, shishi, geese and quails, the rim with scroll decoration. The second plate with similar decoration, but only with phoenixes on the rim.
