Zhu Xinjian came from Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. He graduated from Nanjing University of the Arts in 1980 with a degree in fine arts and was a member of the Chinese Artists Association. He was a proponent of the "New Literary Painting" movement, with women as his primary subject. He has designed cartoon characters for the Shanghai Animation Film Studio and CCTV and held exhibitions in China, Belgium, and France
