Description:
Nepal, 19th cent.61 x 34 cm, Stand
The shaped upper section of the torana is embossed with an ajour design of a central placed winged khyung-bird, both arms stretched outwards, bejewelled, his head with beak, pair of horns and a red coloured flaming hairdo, flanked by a pair of nagarajas with a snake-tail, each supporting a fruit with one hand, their faces displaying a serene expression, their blue coloured hair combed in a chignon with a snake-canopy behind, the lower section with a pair of makaras and all placed amidst scrolling tendrils, mounted.
From the estate of the Helmut Ploog collection (1940-2024), collected since 1965. Collection card with the note Nagel preserved.
