China, 17th/18th c.Bildmaß ca. 33 x 205 cm
Landscape in the blue-green style with an exquisite palace complex. Horizontal handscroll, ink and colors on silk. Collector's .abel on the outside of the scroll: "Obtained at Canton. 1912, by J. Klubien." A seal: "Gu Lu Bian." The painter's signature at the beginning of the scroll: "Painted by Qiu Ying." A seal of the painter: "Shizhou." A collector's seal: "Mei shi zhen cang." At the top center of the scroll is a long inscription in the style of Zhang Zhao (1691-1745), signed: "Viewed and inscribed by Detian Zhang Zhao." The center of the scroll is a depiction of a magnificent building complex visited by numerous people. Next to the large main halls rise high cliffs, surrounded by arcades. The rest of the landscape, with its green cliffs in the style of Qiu Ying, is populated by colorfully dressed people, including high dignitaries on horseback, in sedan chairs, and carriages, all of whom appear to be visiting this sight, presumably for a special festival. Richly decorated boats of all kinds can also be seen.

Jørgen Klubien 1881-1968 was a Danish China researcher who worked in China from 1903 to 1937 and became a well-known member of the Dansk-Kinesiske Forening. He worked at the Chinese customs and collected numerous works of art locally, including Shanghai, Hangzhou, Wuhu, Nanjing - Minor age-related dam., minor rep.
Zhang Zhao was Grand Secretary and High Minister at the court of the Qianlong Emperor (r. 1736-1795), as well as an important painter and calligrapher. He served the emperor as an important 'ghostwriter', and a collection of his colophons was published in 1773. Liu Yong was also a grand secretary and minister at the emperor's court and one of the most important calligraphers of his time - Minor damages due to age
