China, late Ming dynasty

Seated in vajrasana on a plinth with his raised right hand in abhayamudra while the left is resting on his lap, wearing a monastic garment including an underskirt fastened around his middle with a ribbon knotted to the front and a wide-sleeved mantle covering both shoulders with its borders finely incised with a band of scrolling tendrils, bejewelled, his face displaying a serene expression with downcast eyes below arched eyebrows that run into the nose-bridge, smiling lips, elongated earlobes with earrings, his hair combed in a chignon secured with an elaborate ajour cast tiara set with a minute figure of Buddha Amitabha to its front and decorated with a pair of floating ribbons, on a carved wood stand.
