Description:
Tibet, 16th cent.H. 29,3 cm
Standing in samabhanga on a separate cast lotus base, his eight arms radiating around his body, his principle hands in namaskaramudra while the others showing varadamudra, holding chakra, vitarkamudra, lotus flower, bow and kalasha, wearing dhoti fastened around his waist with a pearled belt ornamented with swaying tassels inlaid with turquoise beads, jewellery set as well with turquoise beads, his eleven cold-gilded faces built up in five rows, nine showing a serene expression, one a ferocious expression, the upper one representing Buddha Amitabha displaying as well a serene expression, painted facial details and their blue coloured hair secured with tiaras, partly inlaid with turquoise beads, resealed
From the collection of the chemist, engineer and director of Merck & Co. Heinrich Georg Johann Harms (3 Sept. 1906-28 June 1975) and his wife Eva Harms (10 Nov. 1905-13 Oct. 1998), largely collected in Shanghai between 1935 and 1942 - Minor wear and traces of age, attributes partly lost
