Description:

China, Qianlong period, ca, 1736-38
D. 25,7 cm
Enamelled according to the well-known design by the Dutch artist Cornelis Pronk within an elaborately enamelled border of fish and bird cartouches.
From a German private collection, collected before 2007
Pronk was one of the few European artists to receive direct commissions from the VOC for Chinese porcelain paintings. Only a few of his designs were actually realised in Jingdezhen, and production remained very limited due to the extremely high costs. An almost identical plate is in the collection of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam (inv. no. AK-NM-13027), illustrated in Christiaan Jörg, Pronk Porcelain, Groningen 1980, pl. XX - Very well preserved apart from a minimal glaze imperfection on the rim
