The exotic bird in the centre of the decoration is probably a copy of the birds that appeared on Meissen porcelain around 1740. Similar birds were also known later on porcelain from Worcester, Chelsea and elsewhere. The view in the background could represent part of the harbour of Batavia, but it is more likely that it is one of the many harbour scenes on Meissen porcelain - Minimal signs of age, very minor wear
