Description:
Tibet, 15th cent.H. 12,2 cm
Seated in vajrasana on a lotus base with his hands resting on his lap in dhaynamudra supporting the kalasha set with turquoise beads, wearing a monastic garment including a mantle covering both shoulders and sections draped over his legs, its border incised with a band containing scrolling tendrils, his face displaying a serene expression with downcast eyes below arched eyebrows that run into the nose-bridge, raised urna at his forehead, elongated earlobes, the curled hairdo continuing into the ushnisha and topped with a lotus-bud, sealed.
From the collection of the chemist, engineer and director of Merck & Co. Heinrich Georg Johann Harms (3 Sept. 1906-28 June 1975) and his wife Eva Harms (10 Nov. 1905-13 Oct. 1998), largely collected in Shanghai between 1935 and 1942 - Minor wear and traces of age
