Landscape with scholars' pavilion. Ink on silk, mounted as a hanging scroll. Signature of the painter: "In the fourth year of Era Zhizheng (1344) painted by Huanghe shanren Wang Meng". A seal of the painter: "Wang Meng yin". In a mountainous landscape, a scholar sits in a pavilion by a wide river, in front of which a stone bridge over the water. Behind the pavilion, a waterfall cascades steeply from a mountain peak.
Old German private collection, acquired before 2000, since then in family possession - Minor wear
The picture is painted with a brisk brushwork in pure ink. A hastily drawn, scrawled texture of the rocks attempts to imitate the style of Wang Meng. Wang Meng is one of the 'Four Great Masters of the Yuan Dynasty' and was characterized by dense mountain landscapes with a fluffy 'buffalo hair' texture
