Two bronzes of Krishna and Radha

Description:

South India, 19th cent.
H. 27,5 cm
Each standing in samapada on a rectangular base cast with a band of petals, both with their hands stretched along their bodies, naked, Krishna showing a small genital, both wearing a belt decorated with swaying tassels, bejewelled, their faces displaying each as serene expression with almond-shaped eyes below arched eyebrows, the hairdo of Krishna set in a chignon and the one of Radha combed backwards terminating in a long tail falling down her back.
From the collection of the chemist, engineer and director of Merck & Co. Heinrich Georg Johann Harms (3 Sept. 1906-28 June 1975) and his wife Eva Harms (10 Nov. 1905-13 Oct. 1998), largely collected in Shanghai between 1935 and 1942 - Very slightly chipped, very minor traces of age
