The painting shows the Dainichi Buddha seated in vajrasana on a lotus base in the centre of an eight-petalled lotus dais with both hands resting on his lap in the meditation gesture, surrounded by four Buddhas interlinked by bodhisattvas, around this central section are arranged a series of various Buddhas and bodhisattvas, to his left various forms of Kannon, to his right emanations of Vajrapani and the registers beyond wrathful forms of the Buddha, beings of the various layers of heavens and the outer border sees a multitude of protective and other gods, in brocade mounting, framed.
