Description:

Japan, signed Kinkôzan in black on the bottom, Shimazu-Mon, Meiji period
H. 15,5 cm
Light beige earthenware with fine polychrome and gold decoration. Detailed scenes on the walls: a cockerel and a hen among päonias and chrysanthemums, birds among wisteria, a temple scene with architecture and landscape rich in figures and a depiction of Buddhist sages and floating deities in a wooded landscape. The painting in dense gold ornaments and dot patterns, the rim edged with geometric borders.
Underglaze black signature 錦光山 (Kinkōzan) on the base, with the Shimazu coat of arms (circle with cross) above.
