The sculpture "Double Love Cherries" is one of the characteristic works of Lothar Vigelandzoon, whose artistic practice since the 1990s has been distinguished by an elegant combination of organic forms, decorative lightness, and artisanal precision.
The bronze sculpture depicts two sumptuously modeled cherries, their plump, glossy red surfaces standing in sensual contrast to the slender, gold-coloured stems, which cross elegantly and join at the top in a delicate leaf. Mounted on a bronze base, the work gains additional monumentality and grounding.
With this work, Vigelandzoon engages a motif located at the intersection of nature, symbolism, and contemporary sculpture. The cherry has long been regarded as a symbol of fertility, sensuality, and the beauty of transience. In its doubled form and with the title "Double Love Cherries", the artist translates this symbol into an allegory of partnership and mutual complementarity.
The strictly limited edition, to which the present example belongs as an "Épreuve d’Artiste" (artist’s proof), underscores the exclusive character of the work. Vigelandzoon’s sculptures are represented internationally in private and public collections and are regularly exhibited at renowned galleries and art fairs.
