Wood with a crusty patina. The base of the lidded vessel is carved in an openwork manner and consists of two archingly arranged lizards that flank each other and, supported on a round plinth, hold up the round lid bowl. The body of the bowl is decorated with geometric incised carving. The lid is crowned with a stylised lizard. The interior of the bowl is rubbed with redwood paste. This ceremonial bowl contained kola nuts. Rare collector’s item.
