Description:

Western Anatolia, mid-19th century
415 x 142 cm
An unusual kilim of large scale. The vivid, monochrome red ground displays impressive colour quality, subtly animated by slight abrash. Four geometric motifs - including diamonds and a hexagon - are the only decorative elements, rendered in kilim and cicim techniques. With their amuletic and archaic character, these motifs stand in striking contrast to the open ground. Likely of Kurdish origin, possibly from the Yüncü group, Western Anatolia, Balıkesir region (?).
From a significant European private collection, formed between the 1980s and the early 2000s - Minimal reweaving, repairs with original material
