Description:

Elmadag, Ankara, Northern Anatolia, mid-19th century
418 x 165 cm
Kilim weavings from Elmadag are distinguished by their specific colour character, densely interlocked patterning, and typical kilim end finishes. Three large diamond motifs dominate the field, built up in concentric colour layers with “feathered” outlines. A composition of monumental and powerful expression.
From a significant European private collection, formed between the 1980s and the early 2000s - Cf.: Valcarenghi, Kilim: History and Symbols, Milan, Electa (1994), fig. 10 - Some signs of use, with repairs and areas of reweaving.
