Description:

Central or Western Anatolia, first half of the 19th century
346 x 76/ 364 x 78cm
Two slit kilim panels featuring a similar pattern concept, though not originally made as a pair. Colourfully alternating hooked octagons adorn each red ground, which is framed by a white-ground border decorated with colourfully alternating polygons. These panels are a fine example of the virtually endless interpretative creativity of Anatolian weavers in their use of traditional motifs and pattern concepts.
From a significant European private collection, formed between the 1980s and the early 2000s - Cf.: Yayla, Brueggemann, Frankfurt (1993), Plates 12 and 13 - Partly damaged, partly reweaved, mounted on linen
