An article in HALI magazine, issue 146, is dedicated to this specific type of kilim weaving, which played an important role in daily life, particularly in the context of bread preparation, in the Cappadocia region. These kilims, known in Persian as sofreh, are referred to in Cappadocia as itea (also itegi or ita). Their light wool grounds are typically undecorated, save for side accents featuring finger-like motifs in dark brown.
From a significant European private collection, formed between the 1980s and the early 2000s - Cf.: HALI 146, May/June 2006, Davies/Sak, “The Itea”, pp. 84-89, nos. 5, 7, and 8 - Minimally stained; overall in good condition
