Four glazed tiles of the “Dome of the Rock” type

Description:

Probably Ottoman, second half of the 16th c.
16 x 39 cm / 20,2 x 44 cm
Glazed in turquoise and black. Fragment of a continuous pattern repeat with stylised palmettes and arabesques. Tiles with this pattern decoration, which is based on four tiles forming a complete motif, are especially known from the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem; also in a blue-and-white variant.
