Description:
Qajar period, Persia, 18th/19th c.133 x 75 cm
Composed of 24 tiles. Polychrome glazed in yellow, blue, turquoise, black, white, brown and rose. Depiction of a niche (“mihrab”) with a curved gable. Set within is a flowering tree motif with birds. The corner niches and the border frame are covered with arabesque floral scroll ornamentation.
From the collection of art dealer and collector Saeed Motamed (1925-2013), collected since the 1950s, largely documented in a 1998 inventory with drawings and Persian descriptions.
