Description:

Lacquer work in papier-mâché, probably three mirror box shutter panels with polychrome painting and floral ornamentation in light relief. One panel with a central figural reserve in the Safavid style. The lidded box is decorated with floral decoration, the popular "Gul-o-bulbul" motif and a surrounding Qajar calligraphy frieze on the lid.
From the collection of art dealer and collector Saeed Motamed (1925-2013), collected since the 1950s, largely documented in a 1998 inventory with drawings and Persian descriptions.
