Description:
Probably Persia, 19th c.16,5 x 11 cm / 22 x 15 cm
One manuscript bound in leather with gold embossing, text in black ink, with floral border decorations in places, dated in the colophon: 1314 d.H. = 1897 AD. The other manuscript is bound in brown leather with gold embossing, frontispiece in a floral ornamental painting in polychrome gouache and gold. Text in black ink with captions in red, blue and gold ink on alternating coloured pages with scattered gold illumination. Colophine with date 977 d.H. = 1570 AD. On the last page a miniature painting in polychrome gouache (probably added later).
From the collection of art dealer and collector Saeed Motamed (1925-2013), collected since the 1950s, mostly documented in a 1998 inventory with drawings and Persian descriptions. Partially documented in exhibition catalogs since the 1970s, see inventory no. 2500, p. 308 - These books were returned to Saeed Motamed in 2011 by the Berlin State Library, where they had been stored since 2004 and could not be acquired due to insufficient budget - Signs of age
