Lit.: O. Pelka, Keramik der Neuzeit, fig. 50 f. The Aelteste Volkstedter Porzellanbfabrik is the oldest of Thuringia's porcelain manufacturers still in production today. Hugo Meisel came from a family of porcelain artists. He was involved in the design of the ‘Porcelain Palace’, which was used as an exhibition hall in 1921. At that time, only this porcelain factory produced figurine groups of this size. Some of the most beautiful figurine groups from this factory were modelled by Hugo Meisel. These large sculptures, which were only produced in very small numbers, are now particularly rare.
