Southern German private collection. Ludolf de Jong specialised primarily in hunting scenes. A typical example of his composition and colour scheme is the hunting party depicted here at a watering place, set against a vast Dutch river landscape. A frequently recurring motif is the pair of dogs (depicted with a touch of humour) in the foreground. The landscape could be the work of his Rotterdam colleague, Joris van Hagen, with whom de Jong presumably collaborated from the 1650s onwards. The painting is registered in the RKD, The Hague, as Ludolf de Jong under no. 284060.
