The Virgin presents Christ Child to Saint Francis. Oil/canvas.
The composition is based on two paintings by Murillo, now in the Prado, Madrid: ‘The Vision of Saint Francis at the Portiuncula’ (P 981) and ‘The Virgin Appears to Saint Bernard of Clairvaux’ (P 978). The painting by Juan van der Hamen y León, Paris, Blondeau Associés, is also very similar in composition. as well as Pietro da Cortona's 'Vision of Saint Francis' in the Vatican Museums (Inv. 40405).
