According to family tradition, given as a gift in the 1920s by the Mendelssohn family of Berlin to the family of the current owner. This painting is strongly influenced by the work of Paolo Veronese and Giovanni Battista Tiepolo. Although no direct model can be identified for this highly dramatic and, in terms of composition, extremely sophisticated work, it nevertheless demonstrates the artist’s profound understanding of the Venetian pictorial canon.
