China, Ming dynasty, 15th/ 16th cent.H. 52 cm
Seated in vajrasana on a separate cast lotus base showing a double row of upturned petals, his hands resting on his lap in dhyanamudra, wearing a monastic garment including an underskirt fastened around the waist with a ribbon knotted to the front and a wide-sleeved mantle covering both shoulders falling down along his body and legs in wide pleats, his bare chest incised with the swastika-emblem, his face displaying a serene expression with downcast eyes below arched eyebrows that run into the nose-bridge, raised urna at his forehead, smiling lips, elongated earlobes, his curled hairdo continuing into a low ushnisha and decorated with a ratna-emblem to its front
