Ink and colors on silk, mounted and framed under glass. Two scholars conversing on a bridge, surrounded by gnarled pine trees and deep ravines. A monumental mountain landscape in the blue-green style with delicate wisps of mist and a plunging waterfall, frames the scene. Signature: “Painted by Qianli Zheng Zhong.” Artist’s double seal: “Zheng” and “Zhong”.
Former North German private collection - Zheng Zhong, with the courtesy name Qianli, was from Shexian in Anhui and worked in Nanjing. He specialized in depictions of Buddhist figures and landscapes in the Song and Yuan styles. The present fine painting displays the characteristic academic style of the 17th century - Minor wear, slightly creased
