Description:

China, 19th cent.
B 27-84 cm
Wool (rich red), woven and fulled, imported from Europe. Embroidery: silk, satin stitch; gold thread, appliquéd. Frame made of woven fabrics. Lining: silk pongee. Vases with flowering branches, bowls with fruit, incense burners, and vases with incense ceremony implements are placed on pedestals and plinths. The vessels are depicted as painted porcelain, the pedestals partly as dark wood. One of the hangings also features a bat.
