A sandstone head of Buddha Shakyamuni

Thailand, Ayutthaya period, 17th cent.

The head is sculpted with a serene facial expression showing downcast eyes below arched eyebrows that run into the nose-bridge, smiling lips, broken elongated earlobes and the curled hairdo is continuing into the ushnisha, traces of black lacquer.
