Yeo Hoe Koon (born 1935 in Hainan) is a prominent pioneer of modern art in Singapore, renowned for his avant-garde, abstract landscapes. Following his formative art studies in Paris, he developed a distinctive style that fuses the thick, block-like fields of color characteristic of Western modernism with the meditative lightness of Chinese ink painting. Around 1991, he engaged intensively with abstractions of historical or imaginary cities. The present work, dating from 1991, perfectly reflects this masterful fusion of East and West through its interplay of light, texture, and atmosphere
