Born in Hine, Izumi Province (present-day Osaka Prefecture), he moved to Kyoto in 1837 and remained active there until his death. Initially trained in the Kano tradition, he later turned to literati painting, studying under Okada Hankō and drawing inspiration from prominent scholars and collectors of his time. Renowned for his refined landscapes and calligraphic brushwork, Taizan played an important role in the development of nineteenth-century Nanga painting in Kyoto - Minor wear, mounted as hanging scroll
