Description:

Japan, early Edo period
H. 49 cm
Standing in a martial posture with his feet spread on a separate carved rocky base, his right hand slightly raised to chest level originally holding a sword while the left is stretched down along his body grasping the noose, wearing various garments including a skirt falling down in wide pleats and fastened around his waist with a belt, scarf draped across his chest and left shoulder, bejewelled, his face displaying a fierce expression with bulging eyes below raised bushy eyebrows, his hair combed in a chignon and a red lacquered flaming aureole behind.
East German private collection, the majority acquired between the 1970s and 1990s - Traces of age, partly chipped, sword lost, slightly rest.
