Description:

South Persia, circa 1900

An interesting example of a rather rare pattern. The classical design consists of a curved “mihrab” (prayer niche), flanked by two monumental cypress trees and covered with a large number of floral motifs. Here, however, the traditional pattern has been centrally mirrored, creating an orientation towards both ends and significantly altering the original concept as a “prayer rug”. The border design follows the classical pattern repertoire. Original ends.
