Description:
Caucasus, 19th c.125 x 88 cm
An exceptionally finely designed variation of the reciprocal crenellated border, here used as the main border and accompanied by white floral subsidiary bands. Despite the delicate drawing, the forms appear generous and clearly structured. A pleasing, well-balanced color impression enhances the overall quality of the composition. Eder described a nearly identical comparative piece in very similar terms, highlighting its exceptional refinement.
From an old Southern German private collection, acquired at Nagel Auctions, Auction 41T, 09 December 2003, lot 24 - Cf. Eder (1979), no. 278 - Evenly worn, minor restorations
