The sculpture garden by Carl Duisberg (1861 – 1935) with Japanese and Chinese
sculptures, largely acquired from Bernheimer in Munich from 1926 onwards
Philipp Duke of Württemberg:
“It is a great pleasure for me that Philipp Württemberg Art Advisory GmbH, in cooperation with one of the leading auction houses in the field of Asian art in Europe, is able to realize and accompany the sale of the collection of Asian bronze sculptures from the Bayer AG collection. Inspired by his encounter with Japanese garden culture on a trip around the world in 1926, the fascination for the culture of East Asia awakened the passion for collecting of Carl Duisberg, then Chairman of the Board of Directors of IG Farben AG. The objects on offer are part of this fascination for the art of East Asia, which continues to this day, and offer a new generation of collectors the opportunity to continue the history of exchange with the culture of Asia.”
A rare four-panel screen with hunting scenes, probably Japan or Indo-Portuguese
Unsigned, 16th/17th c., each panel 189,5 x 62,5 cm
