Red Lotus Flower, ink and colors on paper, mounted as hanging scroll. Signature by the artist: “In the summer of the gengchen year (1940), Xuetao.” One seal of the artist: „Seal of Wang Xuetao” (Wang Xuetao yin).
Former old German private collection, assembled prior 2007
Wang Xuetao studied bird and flower painting with Qi Baishi (1864-1957) at the Peking Painting Academy (Beijing Zhongguo Huayuan). In 1954 he became director of the Chinese Painting Research Society. He is famous for his expressive brushwork and vivid colors.
