Description:
South-India, ca, 16th ct,H. 15 cm
The shrine is showing Vishnu in the centre standing in samabhanga on a rectangular pedestal placed on a larger one, his principle hands in varadamudra and originally resting on the club, both upper ones holding wheel and conch, wearing dhoti, bejewelled, his face worn due to extensive worship, his hair covered with the kirtitamakuta, snake-canopy above, flanked by Sri Devi and Rukmini and all three placed in front of an elaborate partly flaming back-slab.
From a private collection in southern Germany (Formerly the J. R. Belmont von Rickenbach Collection, acquired in Asia in the 1940s), received by inheritance in 1985
