The masks of the Cameroon Grasslands were owned by numerous male associations and represent different types of society. This certainly very old mask with beard could represent a deceased clan member or family head. The mask type with beard is sometimes also equipped with real hair. An important occasion is the appearance of the masked person at the memorial service of a covenant member. This mask is not a helmet mask, but the flatter mask type. Beautiful age patina.
