All the important sages and folk figures of Daoism and Buddhism are gathered together in the centre of a blue-green, cloudy landscape. In the centre of the picture, the white-robed Guanyin is depicted sitting in a green rocky landscape, with the boy Sudhana at her side, who is searching for wisdom with her on Mount Potalaka. Directly above the Guanyin is the most important sage of Daoism, the Yellow Emperor, seated in a canopy chair on wheels and supported by two ladies with fans. The Daoist Heavenly Kings and other sages have gathered at his side. Above the Yellow Emperor at the top of the painting we see Buddhist monks sitting on white lotus flowers and, on the left, the monk Budai with his chest bare. Above him, in the upper left corner, appears the Daoist philosopher Laozi. On the lower left side of the painting, the fairy Magu is depicted riding a phoenix, while the Eight Immortals greet her on a terrace. In the lower part of the painting, other Daoist kings and sages are depicted, with the Demon Exorcist Zhongkui seated in the centre and the King of Hell residing among his retinue. Two Qing dynasty officials appear in the lower right corner behind other figures, one of them perhaps the Qing emperor himself. Ink and colours on paper, framed under glass.
