Grisaille, drawing and gouache in delicate grey and pastel shades, partially heightened in gold. Very fine depiction of a prince being instructed by a holy Sufi dervish with a golden aureole. The scene is depicted outdoors, in front of a slender tree. The learned, wise man holds a book in one hand, the prayer beads "misbaha" in the other. On the ground in front of him is an inkpot and a book, which is probably the holy Koran. Graceful border decorations with stylised flowering shrubs.
