Japan, Edo period, ca. 1780 - 1800170 x 373 cm
Ink, fine mineral colours and gofun painting on a gold ground. A beautiful scenery depicting a weeping willow and a blossoming cherry tree in a landscape with hills and water interspersed with gold clouds. In the foreground a rock with red and white flowering peonies and delicate bamboo plants. This scene is animated by a pair of flying swallows, a pair of mandarin ducks, pigeons and a woodpecker.
From a South German private collection, acquired prior to 2007 - minor rest.
