Red Plum Blossoms. Dated 1947. Fan Painting, framed under glass, ink and colors on paper. Inscription in oracle bone style and regular script by the artist and signatur: “In the qinghe month (forth month) in Summer of the dinghai year (1947) painted by Helu Ding Fuzhi in Shanghai at the age of sixty nine (68 in European counting).” Two seals of the artist: “Ding Fuzhi yin” etc.
From a European private collection, acquired prior to 1990 - Ding Fuzhi (Ding Ren), with the style name Helu, was from the Hangzhou county and was a co-founder of the Xiling seal association in Hangzhou. He was a noted painter of plum blossoms and a calligrapher using the style of the old oracle bone script of the Shang dynasty. He was also a famous collector of seals of the Xiling association and compiled several catalogues of them. He died at the age of over seventy
