Determining the days of destiny, and future events, is a highly complicated undertaking and requires extensive knowledge of Tibetan astrology. Desi Sanggye Gyatsho, the regent of the V. Dalai Lama (1617-1685), wrote an extensive work entitled "White Beryl" (Vaidurya dkar-po), which for the most part deals with the contents of the Nag-rtsis (Sinotibetan divination calculations). Major issues of prediction of events include: Economic matters, livestock, trade and related travel; family size (number of children); health status, prognosis; lifespan, death expectancy, good or bad fortune, etc. From many components, karmic conditions are calculated, such as time - composed of past, present and future, the Five Elements, geographical position, etc. Only with knowledge of the entire astrological symbolism can the representations and scenes in the lower registers of this fragment be interpreted. Nevertheless, the liveliness and expressiveness of the individual scenes in their spontaneously appearing graphic rendering should be emphasised. Gouache on cotton fabric, rhombus.
