Description:
Indonesia, Sumatra, Lampung. 19th c.77 x 71 cm/ 67 x 65 cm/ 64 x 64 cm
Cotton (beige), plain weave, additional coninuous and brocaded pattern weft, silk (red, blue, green, yellow). a) Several large vessels with an ancestor figure in the center are woven horizontally in mirror-symmetry into the cloth. A person also stands at each of the spirally stems of the lower ship. b) A large ship with three ancestor figures beneath a canopy, flanked by figures on high legs. Also woven in horizontally mirror-symmetry. c) In this cloth, the representation centers an abstracted ancestral shrine, composed vertically in mirror symmetry. Other figures to either side in diamond-shaped formations. Wide borders in three colors. Stickers on the back of all cloths referring to earlier collections.
