Description:
Tibet, 19th c.D./ B. 16 - 24 cm
Silver, turquoise or glass inlays at the spout; fire gilding, 4 pieces. This very carefully chiselled ritual set, unfortunately not complete for the water offering to the nagas and other spirits, consists of a jug, a small plate with a double interlocking stand - designed as a Chinese symbol of longevity, and a water basin to catch the consecrated water poured over the small plate. The set also included a pair of cymbals to summon the beings to whom this offering is to be made. The jug is richly decorated with tendrils and has a gilded half-relief on the surface with the representation of this very water sacrifice by a sacrificer holding the water jug in his hands. In front of him is a small table with the bowls, the crossed stand, and the pair of cymbals. In addition to the vine work, the catch basin is decorated with the symbols of the Eight Treasures.
From an old and important German private collection, collected between 1950 and 1987, collection number R 78 - Minor traces of age
