Description:
Tibet, 19th c.L. 122 cm
Brown and peach silks with woven patterns. Colored satin silks pieced and appliqued. Lining: cotton (beige), hem set off with red silk. The sleeveless robe is made of a brown-purple silk with golden Shou medallions. Inserted sections sewn from strips of different colored satin silks with applied crosses imitating a fabric mostly made of wool with dyed patterns. The armholes are set off with a peach-colored silk woven with flower tendrils. This type of robes are worn as wedding gowns. Due to the high quality and elaborate production, it is probably the robe was reserved for a noble lady.
