Description:
China, underglaze blue Qianlong seal mark and from the periodH. 23,3 cm
On one side a scene with immortals on a terrace and a heavenly palace, on the other side a mountain landscape with river and pines in excellent painting, surrounded by a ruby red sgraffito ground with lotus blossoms and tendrils. Two handles running along the sides of the body and neck in the form of stylised dragons in light blue accentuated with dark blue. The neck with central lotus blossom surrounded by tendril work. The interior and the base glazed in turquoise. Underglaze blue seal mark on the base. Presumably the vase originally had a lid.
According to the owner, formerly from the collection of Princesse Jeannine de Faucigny-Lucinge (1918-2017), family-owned for over 100 years
The legacy of Tang Ying (1682-1756), the brilliant manager of the imperial kilns in Jingdezhen from the Yongzheng to the early Qianlong reign, is clearly evident in the landscape depiction on the present vase. He was himself a gifted painter, and scenes signed with his seal survive from the early Qianlong period, either painted directly by him on the vessel or transferred by professional porcelain decorators from his ink drawings. This landscape motif was further adapted to include figures, as seen on the present vase. Very minor chipping or loses of the enamel color, one handle on the top edge probably overpainted.
