Of pear-shaped form, with globular body and small pinched pouring lip and bracket handle, on short spreading foot. The surface of this large ewer is decorated with finely painted various flower sprays, such as chrysanthemum, peonies, prunus near bamboo and ruyi-shaped clouds. The glaze is luminous and bright. And true to transitional standards, the ewer is rather heavily potted, with the weight centered in the lower end of its body.
Collection Otmar Kurrus (1929-2012), bought according to notes 1988 from Heinz Reichert, Freiburg and Munich, a famous German porcelain dealer by repute
The form of this unusually large ewer is inspired by a metal shape and was most likely intended fort he Dutch market.
